VRSF Staged Racing Intercooler Kit – 2012-2015 BMW 228i/M235i/328i/335i/428i/435i N20 and N55
Replace your inefficient factory intercooler with the VRSF Upgraded Intercooler Kit to get the most out of your N20/N55. We designed this kit to be one of the highest-performing direct-bolt intercoolers available for your BMW, with a focus on quality and performance while maintaining a reasonable price. Our intercoolers deliver higher horsepower gains, primarily due to their ability to keep intake temperatures low while preventing heat absorption, a common problem with factory intercoolers. This results in more power and increased reliability with a reduced risk of pre-ignition and knocking.
Intercooler core
The most important component of any intercooler is the core. The core cools the turbocharged air before it enters the engine, and the OEM BMW finned tube intercooler is designed to handle low boost levels and low airflow. Once boost levels and airflow are increased, the OEM unit is easily overwhelmed and cannot meet the cooling demands of a tune operating beyond the OEM boost levels. This results in heat absorption, which will lead to a loss of power and a higher potential for pre-ignition in the upper RPM range. The OEM intercooler will raise the temperature to 55-60 degrees Celsius when pulling from 2nd to 4th gear, which is both harmful to your engine and deprives you of power.
We address this issue with our custom bar and plate core design, which utilizes a high-density, staggered internal and external fin stack. Our core has been meticulously tuned to provide the best intake temperature reduction while maintaining minimal pressure drop. Our bar and plate core is also significantly more durable than the OEM tube and fin core, with a greater ability to withstand rocks and other debris. As the logs below demonstrate, the VRSF Race core offers a significant improvement over the OEM core by keeping temperatures closer to ambient. In the example below, we show an F30 335i on a 75-degree day. Our intercooler maintains a safe temperature throughout 2nd through 4th gear, starting at 89 degrees and ending at 86 degrees.
Finishing and construction
Our VRSF intercooler features 3D-designed cast aluminum end tanks for improved flow compared to sheet metal end tanks. Our seamless, one-piece, CNC-machined end tanks are also more durable than comparable sheet metal or multi-piece end tanks. Each VRSF intercooler is finished with a uniform, bright silver coating that helps protect the intercooler from corrosion and ensures your VRSF intercooler can withstand the elements, no matter where you live.

Facility
This is a complete plug-and-play option, and we include everything needed to replace the OEM intercooler. All VRSF intercoolers feature tabs to retain the factory fan shroud. Our bolt-on end tanks utilize the OEM intercooler's existing piping. Each VRSF intercooler is hand-finished and pressure-tested to ensure a high-quality, leak-free experience. Our intercoolers fit both left-hand drive (LHD) and right-hand drive (RHD) models, as well as all XI models.
